A stalwart of Merseyside’s music scene since the mid-1970s, Phil Jones is a genuine Liverpool legend.

Talismanic leader of Afraid of Mice and Up and Running and solo since 2010, multi-instrumentalist Phil has played every live room in the city, winning a devoted audience and influencing countless musicians along the way.

Frontman of cult prog rock outfit Next, the band quickly acquired a reputation as an outstanding live attraction and recorded an album for CBS in 1977.

Inspired by the upsurge of punk Phil dissolved Next and founded New Wave outfit Afraid of Mice in 1979, signing to Charisma Records. Produced by iconic David Bowie / T-Rex associate Tony Visconti, the band’s eponymous 1981 debut LP is an overlooked classic.

Following the album with a clutch of outstanding singles and follow up disc the White Album produced by ABC/Frankie Goes to Hollywood collaborator Anne Dudley the group split in 1983.

Re-establishing himself with live-focused duo Two’s A Crowd, the outfit gained a huge Merseyside following and released Live At Live Street in 1987, recorded at a sold-out Empire Theatre gig.

Morphing into pop/rock outfit Up and Running, the group’s single Johnny and Marie was a mainstay of local and national radio during the summer of 1988 and is a long-standing Liverpool anthem. Following two albums and accompanying major tours of the States, Phil decided to fly solo.

Entering the new decade Phil continues to write, record and perform live, with his series of Doorstep Gigs broadcast live from outside his front door soaring past 15,000 live streams on Facebook.
